BHS Construction

Recent & Planned Work
The facilities at BHS have been drastically updated in recent years, and work continues thanks to ongoing bond issues and community support.
- Classroom Technology
Most classrooms now feature ceiling-mounted LCD projectors and sound systems. By 2010-2011 every classroom should have this technology. - Monitored Access
As part of a district-wide initiative to better secure school buildings during much of the school day, all exterior doors are now latched and inoperable from the exterior. Non-keyed access is restricted to the main entrance off Hillcrest with a video camera, intercom, and electronic door latch operated by Ms. Kiner in the main office. - New Lockers
New dark blue lockers replaced the old tall narrow ones with wider double-tier units that are easier to load with books and backpacks. - Interior Painting
The center section of the main building (office area) and portions of the stadium were repainted last summer. - Stadium Sealant
The 1954 stadium has leaked for years due to problems with its inaccessible inner roof. During the summer of 2009 a sealant was applied to the concrete seating deck and and work done on the expansion joints to alleviate the infiltration problems. The middle floor windows were also sealed to stop leaks.
2009 Improvements to Existing Buildings
Campus Additions in 2009
- Campus Expands Again

In late July 2009 the Board of Education purchased the property at1800 Hillcrest Drive , at the southwest edge of the campus. Eventually the buildings on that site may be demolished and the area used for expanded parking along with the parcel east of Crestview Drive by the Bruin Activity Center. - Bruin Activity Center
The new indoor practice facility, the Bruin Activity Center, has opened on the south end of the campus across 18th Street from the Fine Arts Center and Bruin Field House. This property was once the site of the Crestview Apartments. The 15,625 square foot facility accommodates the baseball, softball, soccer, football, cheerleading, and band programs when inclement weather strikes. It has a turf surface much like what is now found on Lyon Field. Netting is available for the baseball and softball teams to take batting practice. - Football Locker Room
The new football locker facility on the east side of the 2006 Bruin Field House was used during the Bruins' record-tying 2009 season. It featured new offices for the coaches, a film room, restrooms, showers, and lockers.
