Accounting I

Prerequisite:  None

Accounting students will learn to plan, keep, and analyze financial records.  Accounting procedures covered will include those for all types of businesses.  Students will learn to maintain financial records, interpret financial statements, and analyze elements of accounting essential to the operation of a business.  This course is recommended for all students for its value in keeping both personal and business financial records and especially for students who are going to pursue a career in business.  Included in the curriculum is the learning and use of automated accounting software and procedures

 

Accounting II

Prerequisite:  Accounting I

This course is for students who desire a further study of accounting, entry-level job skills, and effective personal financial management skills; learning activities are directed toward management decision-making.  The course begins with a comprehensive review of the accounting cycle.  Payroll tax records, cost accounting, inventory control, depreciation, and corporate and management accounting are emphasized. It is especially recommended for students planning to major in business.  Included in the curriculum is the learning and use of automated accounting software and procedures.


Advanced Business Computer Applications

Course Number:  2128

Prerequisite:  Keyboarding and BCA

This course is an in-depth study of the advanced features of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations.  Students will use the Internet, scanner, and digital camera as tools to enhance and enrich course work.  Curriculum will include Microsoft Office software.

 

Business Computer Applications

Course Number:  2127

Prerequisite:  Keyboarding

This course is an introduction to word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations and the integration of these applications.  Curriculum will include Microsoft Office software, the most popular integrated software package today.  This course is recommended for both college-bound students and those ready to enter the workplace.    Oklahoma colleges and universities consider this to be a core course.

 

Business Dynamics

Want to know about the real world?  This class is designed to address vital information about real-world activities.  Students will examine their roles as workers, consumers, and citizens.  Areas covered will include human relations, insurance, personal finance and investing, and career exploration.  The real world is the business world.  Prepare for the real world—today.


Business Law I

Prerequisite:  None

Do you know your rights if you are stopped by a law enforcement officer?  We want students to be informed of their rights and obligations in business and personal legal dealings.  We will review the law as it relates to our daily lives and have discussions and updates on current events and cases in law.   The court system, criminal and civil law, and valid contracts will be subjects of our study. 

For further study of the law and legal applications, we suggest students enroll in Business Law II.

 

Business Law II

Prerequisite:  Business Law I

This course is designed to help students better understand the legal world in which they live.  Students will expand their vocabulary and sharpen their abilities to think critically, analytically, and systematically by looking at real-life problems and actual cases that have been decided by the courts.   Students will be better equipped to recognize legal problems, utilize professional counsel, and make decisions by weighing the rights of all involved.  Current cases and events in the news will be the basis of discussions. 

 

Entrepreneurship

Are you a risk-taker?  Would you enjoy a lively course that is guaranteed to help you understand what you read and hear about business?  Learn about the free enterprise system and use this knowledge to organize and operate a class business.  Students will be responsible for all aspects of the business and gain invaluable information about supply, demand, problem solving, decision making, and other economic concepts. 

 

Notetaking and Study Skills

Prerequisite:  None

This course will help students develop strategies in study skills and note taking skills for personal, career, and/or college use.  Students will learn an alphabetic system of writing for the purpose of effective note taking strategies for use in college and career.  Study skill techniques are utilized to help students learn to plan their time wisely, listen and read for understanding, organize notes, and review and prepare for essay and objective examinations.  Development of spelling and vocabulary skills will also be included.

 

Personal Keyboarding

Course Number:  2364

Prerequisite:  None

Have you tried to complete a research paper for a class but have been slowed down by having to “hunt and peck” the keys?  You can learn the keyboard accurately without looking at the keyboard.  The proper knowledge of the computer keyboard is vital in today’s world.  This keyboarding class is the basis for all computer classes. This semester course will concentrate on proper touch keyboarding technique, development of speed and accuracy, and the ten-key pad.  Besides learning the keyboard, students will also learn to format basic types of documents for personal, educational, and business use.  A proficiency test is available for prerequisite purposes, but not for credit.  Please see your counselor for more information.

 

Web Page Design

Course Number:  2122

Semesters:  1

Grade Level:  11, 12

Prerequisite:  Keyboarding and BCA or Word Processing

In this course, students will be planning, designing, and launching a complete website. The first half of the semester will be devoted to creating Web pages using a form of HTML page definition language.  Students will design their own Web site, which will incorporate class project materials.  During the second half of the semester the students will learn how to create and edit web pages using Microsoft FrontPage.

 

Word Processing

Course Number:  2119

Semesters:  1

Grade Level:  9, 10, 11, 12

Prerequisite:  Keyboarding

Today’s students need to be able to do more than create, save, and print.  By enrolling in this class, you will learn how to use the advanced features of MS Word.  Many of the topics covered include desktop publishing, mail merge, and the creating of tables, charts, and graphs.  Also, students will learn to use a digital camera and scanner to produce digitally enriched documents.  At the end of this course, you will be prepared to take a test that could qualify you as a Core and Expert user of Microsoft Word in the Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) certification program.
