Benchmark: Student Scores & Item Analysis
Background
In this section you will see how to access the student responses on each assessment question and how students in each class period performed as a whole on each assessment question.
Directions
- Access Benchmark by following the directions from the login section.
- Hold your mouse over Reports on the menu bar and then select Create reports.
- Select Item Response from the pull-down menu and click Next >.
- After a delay, you'll be able to pick the appropriate school year and student group (typically a course name). Select what you want.
- After a delay, a list of the available assessments will appear in the lower portion of the screen. Click the box next to the one(s) you want to check them off. Then hit Next >.
- After a delay, the Select Assignment Preferences screen will appear. If you want all available data, just click the radio button next to the assessment and then hit Next >.
- After a delay, the Select Output Options screen will appear. This is where you can set some Report Header labels. Pick the best match in Subject and Course (this is optional) and then hit Next >.
- A pop-up window will ask you for a Report Name. You'll probably want to replace the automatic name entry with something easier for you to interpret. Note that this report name will NOT allow spaces. For example, you might type in 1st-Qtr-2006-Items. Click on Run Report when you're ready.
- The pop-up window will disappear and there will be a delay. Eventually your browser will show your various completed reports and an entry for the report you've just requested. The final Status column for that report will show if it is still preparing the report, collecting data, or whatever. Wait a bit and then hit your browser's REFRESH button
to see if the report has been completed.
- When the report is finally ready, its name will change to a colored link. Click on that link to open the report in Adobe Reader, where you can view, save, or print it. Each class period will be listed with student responses to each question, followed by an item analysis showing how many students selected each response, how many got the question right or wrong, etc.
- When you are finished, return to your browser and either Logout or select a different option from the Benchmark menu bar.
