BHS NEWS UPDATE

Caps & Gowns Distributed on Friday, May 9

MortarboardSeniors who have cleared all non-academic holds and are eligible to "walk" at graduation will receive their caps and gowns at the end of their normal school day on Friday, May 9. (When a hold has been issued, a release by the teacher is required when obligations have been met. The teacher will send the release to the office - students will not be given the release cards.)

Seniors will pick up a clearance slip in the Fine Arts Center lobby and present it in the hospitality room of the Bruin Fieldhouse for their cap and gown (and collar for women). If a student has a hold, the hold must be cleared in the BHS office before the clearance slip will be issued.

The items will be distributed at the following times:

11:22 amTri-County Tech afternoon students who leave after 3rd period
12:22 pmTri-County Tech afternoon students who leave after 4th period
2:06 pmSeniors who normally leave school at 2:06 pm
3:05 pmAll other seniors

There is no provision for release of caps and gowns on Saturday or Sunday. Working students must arrange to get the cap and gown at the time specified above. Caps and gowns will be available, for students clearing late, on Tuesday, May 13 in the main office. Each senior must get his or her own clearance slip and claim his or her own cap and gown.

How to Wear Your Cap and Gown

Caps and Gowns:

  1. Caps should be set straight on the head, elastic in the back. The tassel should be over the right temple at all times. After diplomas are received, instructions will be given to move the tassel from the right to the left.
  2. The gown should be fastened at the top. Women will have white collars which come with the gown. Caps and gowns should not be worn on the street, but they may be worn to church if your church desires to honor its graduates as a group.

Appropriate Clothing:
School ceremonies are a formal occasions worthy of respect. Students are to be appropriately dressed and behave accordingly.

  1. Women should wear dress shoes and dresses or dress slacks; they may not wear corsages or carry purses, bags, or cameras. For an appearance that is flattering in photographs and presents an attractive image for both individuals and the group, shoes with a closed toe are recommended.
  2. Men should wear a white (or light) dress shirt with tie, dress slacks, and dress shoes.
  3. If you have a question about appropriate dress, seek advice from a BHS counselor or administrator. If a student needs assistance in purchasing proper attire for graduation, he or she should see his or her school counselor.

Diplomas

Diplomas will be distributed on Wednesday, May 28 from 10 am to 3 pm to seniors who are clear on all holds.
