  • 6/30/2002:
    Phase Two - Science Wing: The foundations and footings are being poured, and the big tree has been trimmed. There is a close-up photo of the foundation and a snapshot of the overall work. Broadband visitors can view an updated PixAround view from the alleyway.
    Phase Two - Fine Arts: The field house windows and doors continue to be filled in. There is both a snapshot of that work as well as an updated PixAround view from 18th near Crestview.

    Phase Two - South End Updates: The field house windows are being filled in. Visitors with broadband connections can enjoy new PixAround Views for the fine arts area at 18th near Crestview and at 18th and Hillcrest.


  • 6/20/2002:
    More Movies and Updated PixAround Viewpoints: There are new QuickTime movies both for phase one and phase two, of fill dumping and grading operations. Visitors with broadband connections can view updated PixAround images of the front lawn and north lawn.


  • 6/14/2002:
    QuickTime Movies Added: As a new feature, QuickTime movies taken during the construction process are now available. There are both low-bandwidth (for dial-up visitors) and high-bandwidth versions of each movie. See the new Phase One Movies and the new Phase Two Movies.


  • 6/10/2002:
    Phase One - Front Lawn Work: The sidewalks and curbs along Hillcrest are gone, and the ground is being cleared for the new parking lots and circle drives. There is a photo of the future circle drive. Visitors with broadband connections can view an updated PixAround image of the front lawn.


  • Phase Two - Science Wing Dig: There is a new photo of the north end work. Visitors with broadband connections can view updated PixAround Views from atop the main building.

    Phase One - Shawnee Parking Lot: The big parking lot across Shawnee is almost ready for asphalt. Its driveways mostly in and construction has begun on the crosswalk across the west ditch on Shawnee. Visitors with broadband connections can view updated PixAround images for the 18th Street and Shawnee Avenue and Shawnee near Custer Field viewpoints.
  • 6/8/2002:
    Phase Two - South Parking Lot Cleared: The south student parking lot is being rapidly demolished to make way for the new fine arts center. Visitors with broadband connections can view an updated PixAround View from 18th Street near the Crestview property and there is a new View from 18th Street and Hillcrest.

    Phase Two - Fill on North Lawn: Large piles of fill have been placed on the north lawn to build up the area for the new science wing. Visitors with broadband connections can view updated PixAround Views from the northwest parking lot and from the east alleyway.
  • 6/1/2002:
    Phase Two - Clearing Ground for Science Wing: The ground for the science wing has been cleared of trees and sidewalks. Visitors with broadband connections can view updated PixAround Views from the northwest parking lot and from the east alleyway.
  • 5/31/2002:
    Phase One - Front Lawn Construction Starts: The front lawn reconstruction has begun and there are photos of the demolition of the front parking area, and visitors with broadband connections can view an updated PixAround image of the front lawn.
  • 5/20/2002:
    Phase Two - Groundbreaking: A double Groundbreaking for the new Fine Arts Center and the Science Wing was held on May 20.
  • 5/18/2002:
    East Parking Lot PixAround Update: Visitors with broadband connections can view updated PixAround images for the 18th Street and Shawnee Avenue and Shawnee near Custer Field viewpoints.
  • 5/11/2002:
    Haley Lab Update: Recent high winds blew down one of the large trees in the Haley Environmental Laboratory. The pond in the lab area is filling up, and visitors with broadband connections can view an updated PixAround image from the Haley Lab viewpoint.
  • 5/9/2002:
    Light Poles Up: The east parking lot light poles are up, and some of the curbing is in place. Visitors with broadband connections can view updated PixAround images for the 18th Street and Shawnee Avenue and Pressbox viewpoints.
  • 5/4/2002:
    Practice Fields Take Shape: The backstops and fences for the baseball and softball fields are going up, and the light poles have arrived. Visitors with broadband connections can view updated PixAround images for the 18th Street and Shawnee Avenue, Shawnee near Custer Field, and southeast corner viewpoints.
    Fine Arts Center Drawings: Exterior elevations for the fine arts center have been posted.
    Change Order Approved: The board of education has approved about $40,000 for a second change order for Phase One, to satisfy city requirements regarding drainage along Shawnee Avenue. An earlier change order took care of capping an old sewer lift station and removing trees to reroute an electrical line. Still ahead are possible changes to the retention pond in the Haley Lab area.
  • 4/15/2002:
    Phase Two Contract Awarded: The board of education has awarded a contract of $11,024,681 to TAO Inc. of Bixby, Oklahoma to build the new science wing and fine arts center. The projects will proceed on May 27, 2002.
  • 4/14/2002:
    PixAround Speed-up: The resolutions of the PixAround Viewpoint photos have been lowered to speed up their loading, but a broadband connection (rather than dialup) is still recommended.
    Phase One: The east parking lot is beginning to take form, and the detention pond has been dug. Visitors with broadband connections can view the new pond in the Haley Lab Area PixAround Views, a new PixAround View for 18th Street and Shawnee, and updated views for Shawnee near Custer Field and from atop the pressbox.
  • 3/23/2002:
    Phase Two: The bids for the science wing and fine arts center will now be opened in early April. The bid versions of the fine arts floor plans have now been posted.
  • 3/12/2002:
    Asbestos Removal: The school board has approved using $120,520 left over from the 2000 bond issue to remove asbestos from crawl spaces beneath the 1939 buildings (main building and field house). This will allow contractors to install new utilities in those spaces for the new construction funded by the 2001 bond.
  • 3/7/2002:
    Phase One: The grading of the floodplain is ready to commence.
    Phase Two: The bid versions of the science wing floorplans have been posted.
    New Photo: An aerial photo of the campus, showing the land added over the years and the locations of various projects, has been posted.
  • 2/24/2002:
    The floodplain is almost cleared. The Shawnee Avenue PixAround view has been updated. Two new PixAround views have been added: one in the far southeast corner of the floodplain and another in the revised Haley Environmental Lab. There is also a new page describing the future lab.
  • 2/13/2002:
    Two weeks into the project, the floodplain is being rapidly cleared. There is a photo of brush fires and a backhoe, and for broadband users the Press Box and Shawnee Avenue PixAround views have been updated.
  • 1/28/2002:
    The project is underway! See photos from the Groundbreaking Ceremony.
