- 6/24/2005:
Phase Two - Science & Fine Arts: The completed science wing and fine arts center are both visible in a new aerial shot from 2004. The shot also indicates the phase one campus improvements and the locations of the phase three and phase four projects.
- 6/23/2005:
Phase Four - Library: The initial redesign of the library has been approved by the Renovation/Media Center Steering Committee. The design includes the addition of two conference room and a teacher professional room in the area of the auditorium balcony and the southern part of the existing library.
Phase Four - Renovations: SPARKS architects are now creating working budgets for renovations that include:
- Climate control system replacement in the 1939 main building, 1939 field house (adding cooling functions), 1954 stadium, 1958 annex and related additions
- Replacement of the ceiling grid and tiles in those areas or other appropriate renovations necessitated by climate control work
- Door and hardware replacement, new stairwell hand rails, and new vinyl floor tile in the corridors of the 1939 main building
- Light fixture replacements in the 1939 main building corridors and possibly in some classrooms in the 1939, 1954, and 1958 buildings
- Replacing and adding new fixtures and finishes in the 1939 main building and 1939 field house restrooms
- New unisex ADA-compliant restrooms on the 1st and 2nd floors of the 1939 main building
- Replacing current aging 9" wide student lockers with wider units (possibly half-height stacked units)
- Possible replacement of the aging main building elevator cab
- Investigate whether central safety alarm system needs upgrading
The combined renovations/media center/connecting link project may go to bid late in the 2005 calendar year.
- 5/29/2005:
Phase Four - Library: An initial redesign of the library has been made, showing how the 1939 auditorium and an adjacent 1958 annex classroom could be redeveloped.
- 5/21/2005:
Phase Three - Field House: There are new snapshots of the south facade and the east facade of the field house. Broadband visitors can enjoy a new interior PixAround of the building. The northeast corner, southeast corner, and 18th Street PixArounds have been updated.
- 5/18/2005:
Phase Four - Library: The Media Center Design Steering Committee has endorsed the concept, as presented by SPARKS architects, of remodeling the 1939 auditorium, balcony, an adjacent classroom, and a portion of the original library into a new expanded library/media center with associated conference rooms. BHS Librarian Kim Lashbrook is now working with SPARKS to decide on the best layout for the available spaces. The library and connecting link will now be bid as part of the full Phase Four renovations.
- 5/18/2005:
Phases Two & Three - Fine Arts & Field House: The bronze Bruin statue was installed in the lobby of the new Fine Arts Center/Field House.
- 5/3/2005:
Phase Three Four - Library/Link: Since the library/link projects have now had their bids rejected twice by the board for cost overruns, the Library/Link Design Steering Committee has recommended that those projects be moved to phase four and thus be integrated into the general building renovations. SPARKS is now determining if it would be feasible to renovate the 1939 auditorium and adjacent spaces into an expanded library/media center.
- 4/19/2005:
Phase Three - Library/Link: The school board has rejected the second round of bids on the library and connecting link projects. This time the entire project came in at approximately $3.3 million, which greatly exceeded the $1.3 million base budget even when enhanced with all available interest and other construction funds. The projects have been referred back the Design Steering Committee to consider a completely new approach for the library/media center.
Field House: Steel erection is going strong, and the north and south exterior masonry walls are being constructed. There are new snapshots taken from the atop the pressbox, the northeast corner and the southeast corner of the lot. Broadband visitors can enjoy new PixAround views from the pressbox, the north side of the structure, the northeast corner, and the southeast corner.
- 3/29/2005:
Phase Three - Field House: Steel erection has begun, as shown in snapshots from the alleyway and the pressbox. Broadband visitors can enjoy new PixAround views from the northeast corner and from atop the pressbox.
- 3/3/2005:
Phase Three - Library/Link: Plans are moving forward to re-bid the library and connecting link project in a few weeks. The project has been broken down into a main bid for the library and alternates for portions of the connecting link. Minor changes to reduce costs while preserving functionality have been approved by the Design Steering Committee.
Campus Access: On March 1 Bartlesville voters overwhelmingly approved a city streets bond issue that includes over $1,500,000 to repair, repave, and extend Shawnee Avenue.
- 2/11/05:
Phase Three - Field House: Dirt work continues on the new field house. The area is still muddy and difficult to work with. Broadband visitors can enjoy an updated PixAround view from atop the pressbox.
- 1/27/2005:
Phases Two & Three - Fine Arts Center & Field House: Recently a group of Bartlesville educators visited Pawhuska to view the full-scale clay sculpture for the bronze bear that will be placed in the lobby of the Fine Arts Center and Field House later this year.
- 1/22/05:
Phase Three - Field House: Construction of the Field House has been delayed due to unfavorable weather and large limestone boulders discovered during drilling. Twenty-seven working days have been added to the contract for Rick Scott Construction to complete the Field House; the $5.4 million dollar facility should be completed in early 2006.
