Bartlesville High School:
Building on Excellence

Phase Two:
Fine Arts Center

Dedication

Ribbon Cutting

The new Fine Arts Center was dedicated at a public Open House on Sunday, September 19, 2004. Over 1,000 patrons enjoyed a variety of performances and took self-guided tours of the facility. At one point over 60 people participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the stage. Above is an excerpt, showing former BHS Principal Debi Boyles, current School Board President Barry Lowe, Planning & Communication Committees Co-Chair Earl Sears, Fine Arts Subcommittee Chair Stan Mueller, Fine Arts Project Liaison Susan Mueller, current BHS Principal Jane Sears, and Communication Committee Co-Chair David King.

Board Members

Recognition was extended to past and current members of the Board of Education, the Long Range Facilities Planning Committee, the Bond Issue Communication Committee, the Bond Issue Fine Arts Subcommittees, and other groups who helped make the facility possible. Above are past and current school board members gathered around the facility dedication plaque: Charlie Daniels, Marta Manning, Tom Carlisle, Barry Lowe, Frank Carlburg, Alan Eastman, Emory Pitzer, and Kirk Darnell.

Foundation Members

Special recognition was extended to the Bartlesville Public School Foundation. It provided $1,000,000 for the construction of the West Wing's orchestra, visual arts, and computer lab rooms. Above are Foundation members in front of the West Wing dedication plaque.

Mariann Cook and Steinway

Open House attendees enjoyed performances by students in each of the Fine Arts disciplines taught at the high school. In addition, three Bartlesville alumni showcased their talents. As seen above, soloist Mariann Cook of the University of Oklahoma, sang two songs for the crowd. Dr. Roger Price, University of Tulsa, performed two numbers on the Steinway grand piano - which was funded by community donations. Shan Gray, renowned sculptor and artist, spoke to guests touring the visual arts room. Gray is in the process of creating a 220-foot high bronze statue in Tulsa.

Grand Finale

The performances ended with a Grand Finale, as seen above. The Fine Arts Department enthralled the crowd with Gloria, which included a choral reading from drama students, orchestra, choir, the brass section from the band, and dancers wearing leotards painted by art students. The students received a standing ovation for their commanding performance.
