This photo of the 1954 band room was taken on June 29, 2004 while it was being vacated. Bruin Guard sponsor Gina Lewis and her husband, band director Ron Lewis, are conversing with choir director Susan Mueller as a youngster sorts through the music files being laid out on the floor.

This room and adjacent practice, office, and storage rooms were partially below ground level on the lowest floor of the 1954 stadium. The ceilings had water leaks that could not be easily fixed due to problems with the inner-roof design of the stadium, leading to mold and deterioration problems. Adjoining rooms were quite limited. Thus a new band room, with support areas including a large ensemble room, was included in the 2004 Fine Arts Center.

This area will now be used by the athletics department.
