The Big Beam

On February 12, 2003 the largest piece of structural steel in Phase Two arrived. An immense steel girder for the auditorium was trucked in and lifted into place with two cranes. The 76,000 pound beam was 100 feet long and 4.5 feet high, with 4-inch thick flanges on top and bottom. It required 384 hours of welding and cost about $50,000.
