Experts in Residence

These grants are awarded monthly to fund visits from a wide variety of experts that provide a face-to-face interaction between the subject area expert and the students.

Criteria

The visiting expert may work with the students in a classroom, spend a period of time at a site interacting with various groups of students, or meet with a larger group of students in an appropriate facility. The emphasis should always be on face to face interaction between the expert and the students. Visits should be curriculum related and focused on real issues. These suggestions are offered to enhance the chances of receiving approval for a request:

  • Demonstrate in what ways the expert's visit will enrich the curriculum.
  • Demonstrate that the project will reach as many students as realistically possible.
  • Demonstrate that there are no other local resources available with which to conduct this learning experience.
  • Demonstrate the benefit which the students will receive in career planning, skill development, or personal enrichment.

Non-funded requests may be resubmitted at a later date. Chances for approval are enhanced by not duplicating a program which has already been funded during the current school year.

Application

When a potential visit from an expert has been determined and the necessary preliminary information is gathered, applicants should complete the funding request form, which is available in Word format and as an Adobe Reader fillable form.

Send the completed form to:

Requests must be received by the 20th of each month preceding a meeting of the Foundation Board of Trustees. The Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month excluding January and the summer months.
