October 2009

This Month in GATE:

5th Graders have chosen their explorer and are conducting research for their reports with Mrs. Key.  They have also been working on the physics of theme park rides and carnival games with Mr. Rhoades.  Mrs. Underhill has been focusing on problem solving, using strategies and adjusting those strategies to solve some very “different” logic problems.

4th Graders are working on a project of their choice using their Renzulli profile.  Mrs. Key is guiding them through the process of choosing a topic and product for their first semester project.  Mr. Rhoades has been studying the laws of motion.  The students are creating milk carton racecars to apply this physics concept.  Mrs. Underhill is working on deductive logic and visual thinking strategies to solve matrix puzzles and other logic problems.

3rd Graders are becoming “Survivors”.  Mr. Rhoades is leading them through the discovery of different habitats while Mrs. Key is taking them across the world to explore different climates.  Mrs. Underhill is helping them discover ways to think “out of the box” with different logic problems and centers.

2nd Graders are on their way to places “Out of this World”.   The GATE teachers have been exploring the Earth with these students and are heading out to space.  They are learning strategies for problem solving and thinking differently.
