Science Fair Projects

The Wayside Science Fair will be February 23rd from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.  Your science fair project should follow the scientific method.  You will need to have the following information displayed on your backboard:

FIND A PROBLEM –                      What do you want to know?  Be curious,

choose a limited subject, ask a question;

identify or originate / define a problem.

RESEARCH THE PROBLEM –   What is already known and written about the

problem?  Review published materials

related to your problem or question.

FORM A HYPOTHESIS –              Answer your question with a hypothesis, i.e.

what you think the outcome of your

experiment will be.  Evaluate possible

solutions and make your educated guess.

PLAN AN EXPERIMENT –          What do you need to use?  What will you do

to find out the answer to your question?

Challenge and test your hypothesis through

experimentation (data collection) and

analysis.

COLLECT / ANALYZE DATA –             What happened in your experiment?

Evaluate the results of your experiment and

reach conclusions based on your data.

FORM A CONCLUSION –            What did you learn?

REPORT THE EXPERIMENT – Tell what you learned; don’t keep it a secret!

Students who would like to participate in the Bartlesville District Science Fair must complete the entry form and have it posted marked by February 19, 2010.  The link for the district science fair entry form and rules can be found at www.bps-ok.org/gate .
