Morgan Axsom, a Language Arts teacher in Special Education at Madison Middle School, has been designated by Superintendent Chuck McCauley for the Assistant Principal position at Madison Middle School, effective July 1, 2017. The Bartlesville Board of Education approved his recommendation at its regular meeting on Monday, May 15.

Ms. Axsom has been in the district since 2009. In addition to teaching Language Arts classes, she was the assistant softball coach from 2010-2013. Prior to her time in Bartlesville, she taught life science, language arts, and geography to Special Education students in Jenks and helped coach softball and sponsor Special Olympics. She has also prior teaching experience in Bixby. She has a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University and a Master of Educational Leadership Administration degree from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville.

Ms. Axsom said, “I am thrilled with the opportunity to become a leader in Bartlesville. I believe in our vision and am excited to be a part of such a great team!”

In April the board approved the promotion of Matt Hancock, Madison’s current Assistant Principal, to serve in the 2017-2018 school year as the new Bruin Academy Principal and Assistant Director of Athletics and Activities. That shift was part of an administrative streamlining plan to reduce two of the district’s administrative positions in light of continuing state revenue failures
