At its April 18, 2016 meeting, the Bartlesville Board of Education approved a revised 2016-2017 Academic Year Calendar. The purpose was to delay the start of the next academic year in August 2016 by a week.
  • Staff orientation and inservice begins on Monday, August 15

Classes delayed to allow Central MS to open in August

The delay is to allow more time to work on the construction projects at Central Middle School so that classes can begin at the renovated site in August, rather than holding classes at the former Madison Middle School, which has been the alternate location for Central throughout the 2015-2016 Academic Year.

No snow days in 2016-2017; any inclement weather days will NOT be made up by students

The change does NOT affect Commencement on May 26, 2017 nor does it extend classes past that into the final week of May or early June. This is possible because the revision eliminates five snow days originally built into the 2016-2017 calendar. Under the revised calendar, there will be no built-in snow days. If inclement weather forces classes to be cancelled, the lost time will NOT be made up by students. This is feasible under state law since the state requires a set number of minutes in the instructional year and Bartlesville already exceeds that level by an amount equivalent to 12 school days.

Bartlesville teachers will still be on a 181-day contract, so days lost to inclement weather will convert into end-of-year inservice days to avoid a reduction in teacher compensation.

Other changes from original 2016-2017 calendar

  • Classes will resume after winter break on Monday, January 2 instead of a day later as originally scheduled
  • There will be no school on Good Friday, April 14, 2017

June 2016 update

The latest revision to the calendar shifts a parent/teacher conference day for elementary schools from October 14 to October 28 and now indicates the end of each quarter and each semester, after consulting with high school staff about when best to end the first semester.

The first semester is now slated to end before Winter Break on Friday, December 16, 2016.
