Bartlesville High School will be presenting the comedy musical You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown Thursday-Sunday, May 3-6 at the Bartlesville High School Fine Arts Center.

You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown features a fresh approach to the 1967 classic, based on the beloved comic strip “Peanuts” by Charles Schultz. Sally Brown joins Charlie Brown, Linus, Lucy, Schroeder, and Snoopy in this charming revue of vignettes and songs.

The original musical just celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017.  Gary Burghoff, who played Radar in the TV series M.A.S.H., was cast as Charlie Brown in the original 1967 musical.  The book, music and lyrics are by Clark M. Gesner and are produced in arrangement with Tams-Witmark Music Library, Inc.

The story is “an average day in the life of Charlie Brown" made up of little moments picked from all the days of Charlie Brown, from Valentine’s Day to the baseball season, from wild optimism to utter despair. They are all mixed in with the lives of his friends, both human and non-human, and strung together on the string of a single day, from bright uncertain morning to hopeful starlit evening.  Two new songs have been added to the twelve numbers in the original version of the musical.

You can see alternate versions of the production if you wish, since there are two different casts that will trade off performances. The talented high school students who will be playing the characters in this production are:
  • Charlie Brown will be portrayed by senior Garrett Lee in all performances.
  • Riggs Gorman & Jonathan Rathbone, who are both seniors, will play Linus, Charlie Brown’s best friend.
  • Lucy, a very opinionated character, will be played by junior Olivia Wilt, and sophomore Olivia Park
  • Sally, Charlie Brown's little sister, will be portrayed by sophomore Kylie Bostwick and junior Brooke Marshall.
  • Schroeder, the precocious player of a toy piano, will be played by junior Carson Mathes and junior Lane Cabler
  • Snoopy, Charlie Brown's pet beagle, will be portrayed by senior Matthew Coordsen and freshman Sloan Hewitt.
Junior Kate Snowden is the dance captain, and featured dancers are freshman Sophie Walker, senior Chloe Maye, junior Avery Boulanger, and sophomore Isabella Hayes.

The Peanuts Gang features freshmen Alex Patterson, Eli Winter, Bryanna Swan, Kyler Ayres, Victoria Polley, Carlie Pool, and Nathaniel Vilardo; sophomores Ariel Jimison, Treabein Liston, Edwin Ding and Allison Lee; juniors Elise Bear and Mary Wiley; and senior Michael Baughman.

The musical will include live orchestration by area musicians.  Parent and community volunteers, as well as BHS students, will work behind the scenes.

BHS Choir Director Margie Green will be Music Director and Conductor; Alex Rivera will be Assistant Music Director.  BHS Choir Director Tamara Walker serves as choreographer. J. Allis is the BHS Drama Director, and Lighting Designer is former BHS drama teacher Susan Crabtree.

Performances will be Thursday-Saturday May 3, 4, and 5 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 6 at 3 p.m. All performances will be at the BHS Fine Arts Center off 18th Street between Hillcrest and Shawnee. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students or Bartlesville Public Schools staff with ID. Seating is general admission.  Tickets can be obtained at the ticket booth on Tuesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center and an hour before each show.
