Cross Country Teams Win State Championships

The Bartlesville High School cross country teams earned  three state championship trophies at the Class 6A state finals on Saturday, October 29, 2016. The girls team won their third consecutive state championship, and the boys won their first-ever state title plus they were named the Class 6A state academic champions.

Cross Country Girls Earn Third Consecutive State Championship

The Lady Bruins had 57 points at the state finals in Edmond, 51 points ahead of runner-up Norman at 108 points, with Edmond North in third place at 116 points.

Individual highlights included:
  • Shay Stayton running the 5K (3.1 mile) course in 18:36.4 to finish in the top three for the second time at state
  • Rilee Rigdon ran the 5K in 19.16 to finish in the top four for the second time at state
  • Greta Olsen was 8th at 19:44.7, Erin Epperson 14th at 20:03.9, Margaret Drummond 29th at 20:39.3, Madi Taylor 36th at 20:53.1 and Rachel Harper 84th at 22:36.3

Boys Take First State Title for Bartlesville Boys in Two Dozen Years

Three years ago the girls cross country team ended a 17-year drought of sports state championships for the Bruins. This year the boys cross country team brought home a state boys athletic championship trophy for the first time in 24 years in their first-ever state title.

Individual highlights included:
  • Henry Williams took second in the state at 15:54.9 in the 5K only 4.8 seconds behind the leader
  • James Martinez took 8th at 16:37.9
  • Nathan Lauritsen was 12th at 16:48.4, Reese Hammon 16th at 16:53.1, John David Lancaster 20th at 17:07.8, Noah Eiden 41st at 17:35.3, and Caleb Eiden 47th at 17:41.4
The boys team also earned the State Academic Championship title for 6A Boys in Cross Country for their collective performance in the classroom.

Friday Morning Sendoff with Introductions

On Friday morning the teams were given a rousing sendoff to the state finals. Assistant Coach Bon Bennett introduced each team member, and Head Coach David Ayres thanked the school and supporters.
