The state already reduced activities funding to the district for the 2016-2017 school year, eliminating dedicated funding for textbooks and other programs, on top of repeated revenue failures in early 2016. In 2016-2017, the district has again suffered repeated state revenue failures. At this point, it is projected that the district will receive approximately $900,000 less in net state funding for 2016-2017 vs. the aleady reduced amount it received in 2015-2016. This is on top of the largest cut in state per pupil funding nationwide since 2009. Public education in Oklahoma, like many other state services, is in crisis.
The public is invited to another Public Education Forum with our area legislators. The school district sponsored a morning forum on Friday, April 7, 2017. Now a community group is sponsoring an evening forum on Friday, April 21 from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. in Bartlesville City Hall at 401 S. Johnstone Avenue. Refreshments will be available at 6 p.m.

The Public Education Advocates for Kids (PEAK) is sponsoring the forum, which will be moderated by the Bartlesville League of Women Voters using the league's forum guidelines. State Senator Julie Daniels and State Representatives Earl Sears and Travis Dunlap will participate.

PEAK has established a Facebook page where the public forum is announced as a Facebook event, and the public can sign up for updates from the group at PublicEducationAdvocatesKids@gmail.com

The Public Education Advocates for Kids (PEAK) is not affiliated with the Bartlesville Public Schools. Its flyer on the forum includes that it is a local grassroots all-volunteer organization which is not part of any other group and is not asking for donations. The group says it is speaking out for quality public education in Bartlesville and throughout our state.
