To the Parents of Graduating Seniors:
LaDonna Chancellor
Congratulations on your son or daughter reaching the milestone of high school graduation.  I commend you for the support and encouragement you have provided your child.  The results of your efforts will be seen Friday, May 27, 2016, when we hold commencement exercises at 8:00 p.m. at Custer Stadium.

Because of the number of graduates, we ask your cooperation at the commencement ceremony in the following ways:

  • Please take all pictures of your graduating senior prior to or following the commencement exercise; you will not have access to the field during the ceremony.  Legacy Studios will take pictures of students receiving their diplomas, and those pictures may be purchased through legacystudios.com a few days after commencement for a short time; they will be posted online by June 13th.  A group picture will be taken prior to graduation, and order forms for all pictures will be included in your student’s cap-&-gown packet.  The ceremony will be taped and aired on local cable channel 72 at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 4th.  Order forms for CDs of the ceremony are also included in the cap-and-gown packet.  When the graduates leave their seats, they will file out in opposite directions and circle the field on the track.  Your senior will know his or her exact location on the track after rehearsal on Friday morning, and you can plan to meet your senior there after the ceremony.
  • The caps, gowns, and tassels were purchased by your student and are to be kept as souvenirs of the graduation.
  • In case of inclement weather, the graduation ceremony will be moved into the Bruin Field House.  Seating will also be available in the Fine Arts Center auditorium and the old gym and will include live big-screen showing of the ceremony in each venue.  Each senior will receive five (5) tickets for seating in the Bruin Field House and three (3) tickets for seating in the FAC auditorium; overflow seating will be available in the Commons area.  Tickets will be handed to students when they pick up their caps and gowns.

A schedule of events for senior activities is shown above.  Please discuss this information with your son or daughter.  Please remind your graduating senior to be at the appropriate places on time.  It is absolutely necessary that they attend all activities scheduled.  If your son or daughter works, he or she should make all necessary arrangements with the employer to arrange release time for attendance at all graduation functions.  You are invited to attend the Awards Program at 12:30 p.m., May 20, 2016, in the BHS Fine Arts Center auditorium.  Reserved seating for parents will be available in the upper orchestra on the lower level.  All awards are surprises.  Parents will not be notified prior to the program.

I am looking forward to seeing you at the ceremonies.  If you have questions regarding any activities, please feel free to call.

                                                                                                Sincerely,

LaDonna Chancellor, Principal, Bartlesville High School

For Graduating Seniors: Commencement details

Caps and Gowns:

  1. Caps should be set straight on the head, elastic in the back.  The tassel should be over the right temple at all times.  After diplomas are received, instructions will be given to move the tassel from the right to the left.
  2. The gown should be fastened at the top.  Women will have white collars which come with the gown.  Caps and gowns should not be worn on the street, but they may be worn to church if your church desires to honor its graduates as a group.

Appropriate clothing:  Graduation is a formal occasion for students, and appropriate dress is required.  Appropriate dress for males is white or light-colored dress shirt and tie, dress slacks, and dress shoes.  Appropriate dress for females is dress slacks or a dress and dress shoes.  If dress shoes have a heel, the heel must be at least the width of a quarter.  Graduates may not wear corsages or carry purses, bags, or cameras.  If you have a question about appropriate dress, seek advice from one of the counselors, Mrs. Chancellor or Mrs. Fouts.

Behavior:

The formal ceremonies for graduation are a time for proper and appropriate behavior.  Please act in such a way that your behavior reflects the dignity and honor of the occasions.  This is a special time for all seniors and their families; respectful and appropriate behavior will demonstrate pride in our school and respect of your peers and the ceremony.  Thank you.

Graduation rehearsal on Friday, May 27:

You are to meet in the Bruin Field House at 8:00 a.m. for preliminary instructions.  We will line up in the gym and then proceed to the football field to rehearse all the parts of the ceremony.

Transportation for brunch:

A bus will be available to take students needing rides from BHS to the Hillcrest Country Club for the Senior Brunch and back to BHS after brunch on Friday, May 27th.  It will load at the south entrance of the Field House after the rehearsal and senior meeting.  The bus will return to BHS after the brunch.  Please make every effort to car pool because parking will be limited.

Seating for the physically disabled:

Seating will be available on the track and parking will be accessed from the entrance on 16h street.  A map will be printed on the back of the handicapped parking permit.  If you need seating or parking for physically disabled people in your family, see Mrs. Amen in the principal’s office as soon as possible or call her at 336-3311, ext. 5001.

Permits for physically handicapped parking may be picked up from Mrs. Amen May 23-27.  Do not lose your parking permit; a replacement will not be issued.

Senior Picture:

You are to be in the Bruin Field House at 7:00 on Friday evening, May 27th, to take the senior group picture.  Remember to wear your cap and gown just as you will for graduation.  After the picture, you will line up for the ceremony.  Order forms are included in your cap-&-gown package.

Project Graduation

Seniors will also be honored following graduation with an all-night party held at Washington Park Mall.  Students can check in between 10:30 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. with a driver’s license or photo ID.  It lasts until 2:30 a.m.  Only graduating seniors are eligible to attend this event.  Parents of graduates work very hard to provide a fun evening that is also safe and substance-free and offers seniors the opportunity to celebrate such a special evening with their friends.

Diploma Pickup:

You may pick up your diploma from the registrar at BHS beginning Tuesday, June 21st, 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
