Over 230 district staff members signed up for the Run the Streets 8K at Woolaroc on Saturday, October 12, 2019. For the second year, Superintendent Chuck McCauley and his wife, Jennifer, pledged so that district staff members could register for only the cost of the event’s shirt, with a choice of running the full 8 km course or a one-mile Fun Run.

To encourage employees to register, last year McCauley initiated a BPS Wellness Challenge, where the school site with the most employees to register for the event would win a plaque. Wilson Elementary School again won the friendly competition with 51 of its staff members signed up. The enthusiasm for the challenge was such that the McCauleys increased their pledge from $1,500 to $2,500 so that 233 BPS staff members could participate.

The Run the Streets 8K at Woolaroc had a record-setting 740 registrants. The event supported the Run the Streets mentoring program for area youth, including kick-starting the second season of the Bruins on the Run program for fifth graders at all six BPSD elementary schools, which is sponsored by the Bartlesville Public Schools Foundation. Run the Streets had 95 runners and Bruins on the Run had 85.

The students who participate in Run the Streets run approximately 130 miles during training. Those interested in donating to Run the Streets can text RUNTHESTREETS to 44321 to get started or can visit for more information.

The cool fall weather finally arrived for the event and the beautiful surroundings were perfect for the occasion. Thanks to everyone who helped make the event a great success!
