The Bartlesville Board of Education will consider at its December 17 meeting elevating two coaches to the head varsity softball and volleyball coaching positions. Athletics and Activities Director Spence Rigdon will be recommending that Kyle Minton be elevated to head up the softball program and that Jen Ward head up the volleyball program.

Kyle Minton has coached softball and baseball in the district since 2017. He was the head softball coach at Dewey from 2015-2017, compiling a 35-35 record over the two years, and a 2016 district championship. Prior to that, he coached baseball and football in Bartlesville from 2010-2015. From 2007-2010 he coached baseball, football, and basketball at Edmond.

Mr. Minton has a masters degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and teaches Algebra II Honors at Bartlesville High School. He is a 2005 alumnus of Bartlesville High School. His wife, Kelli, works at the Washington County Department of Human Services. They have two children: Easton and Ace.

Jen Ward had 12 years of volleyball coaching experience in Illinois before moving to Bartlesville. She started coaching the Bruin 8th and 9th grade girls basketball teams in 2014.

In 1992, when she was known as Jennie Driscoll, the Chicago Tribune named her their Prep Athlete of the Year. She attended the University of Pittsburgh on a volleyball scholarship with the intention of also playing college basketball. A shoulder injury put an end to her basketball dreams even as she excelled in volleyball. She earned All Big East from 1993 to 1996, one of only two players in the history of the Big East to reach that level of accomplishment. Her current all-time career records with the Pittsburgh Panthers volleyball team include: 1st in solo blocks, 2nd in total blocks, third in block assists, 4th in hitting percentage, 5th in kills, and 7th in attempts.

Mrs. Ward teaches American Literature - College Bound and English Literature and Composition AP at Bartlesville High School. She describes her husband, Robert, who shared some of her records, as her “hype man.”
