Margie Green, vocal music teacher at Bartlesville High School has been named the Bartlesville Public School District Teacher of the Month for December by Arvest Bank and Oakley-Chevrolet Buick.

In recognition of this honor, Mrs. Green was presented a plaque and a $300.00 check by Stephen Colaw, Arvest Bank Senior Vice President and Trust Client Advisor, and David Oakley Jr., owner of Oakley Chevrolet-Buick.

Mrs. Green achieved her Bachelor of Arts Degree in education from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. She holds Oklahoma teaching credentials in vocal and general music education for grades pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. She has seventeen years teaching experience and is mid-way through her seventh year as a vocal music director at Bartlesville High School.

Mrs. Green made the choice to become a teacher because of Louise Slinkard, her eighth grade science and high school choir teacher. Green says “Mrs. Slinkard invested so much in her students. She inspired me to be the greatest I can be and taught me discipline through hard work. Every day I strive to teach my students the joy of making music. If I can help them develop a life skill for making music, I know I am making Mrs. Slinkard proud.”

Mrs. Green is the chair for the vocal music department at Bartlesville High School. She also serves on the school’s leadership team and the student awards committee. Her leadership and talent is recognized by her peers. This year she is serving as president of the Northeast Choral Director’s Association and is Quad Chair Coordinator for the Northeast Region All-State Choir audition process for the Oklahoma Music Educators’ Association. And this past January she was named the 2016 Bartlesville Teacher of the Year.

The Bartlesville High School Choir and Mrs. Green have a strong relationship with the Bartlesville community. They frequently volunteer to sing for civic groups and at community events. And in 2015 Mrs. Green partnered with community members to host a major fundraising concert for a community agency that raised over $40,000. One of Mrs. Green’s favorite community service projects is volunteering to play the piano for the residents at the Tallgrass Estates Residential Community. Mrs. Green says “I want to build bridges from our school to our community. And volunteering allows for a strong partnership and emphasizes the importance of community involvement for my students.”

Bartlesville Public Schools is proud to join Arvest Bank and Oakley Chevrolet-Buick in honoring Margie Green as the Bartlesville Teacher of the Month for December.
