Jennifer Spina, who teaches kindergarten at Richard Kane Elementary School, has been named one of the Bartlesville Public School District Teacher of the Month by Arvest Bank and Oakley Chevrolet Buick. Ms. Spina was presented a plaque and a $300 check by Annah Fischer, Arvest Bank Marketing Manager, and David Oakley Jr., owner of Oakley Chevrolet Buick.

Ms. Spina has 13 years of classroom teaching experience. This is her third year of teaching kindergarten, and she has also taught first grade.

As crucial as academics are, she knows a child must feel safe, valued, and equipped before demonstrating growth in subject areas. In a trust-filled environment, she shows her students that she believes in them. She said, “I want my students to understand that the classroom is a place for them to discover who they will be and how they will change the world.”

Mrs. Spina was influenced by her own first grade teacher to choose this career path. “Ms. Bishop created, intentionally, an environment especially for me in which I could thrive,” Spina said. “For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to pass that gift to other children.”

As an avid reader, Spina enjoys literature about methodologies, philosophies, strategies, successes, and theory from others in the field. She also recently completed her Master in Education degree in Educational Leadership, which she feels has given her a broader understanding of public education system as a whole.

Bartlesville Public Schools is proud to join Arvest Bank and Oakley Chevrolet Buick in honoring Jennifer Spina as a Bartlesville Teacher of the Month.
