Ranch Heights bringing students together with their role models

Donuts with Dudes and Goodies with Gals are two separate events that take place once each quarter at Ranch Heights Elementary School. During those times the schoolchildren and their guests enjoy a breakfast treat, play games, color together, play dance games, and even hula hoop!

Ranch Heights teacher Mrs. Barnes brought the idea to Principal Chanda Myers to host a family event before school to avoid most parents' work hours and not require that the site Parent Teacher Organization run it.

The events are NOT called Donuts with Dads or Muffins with Moms since the schoolchildren can bring any male or female role model with them. Kids have brought grandpas and grandmas, step-parents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, moms and dads, pastors, and DHS caseworkers to what has become a very special time for family members of all sorts to have uninterrupted time together in the school setting while being served by school staff.

The school averages around 250-300 attendees at each event. The costs have been offset by corporate and individual sponsors as well as staff and friends of the school volunteering their time and money.

Principal Myers commented, "This is a time when we encourage our families to resist screen time in favor of face time."
