Darla Tresner, who has taught journalism at Bartlesville High School since 1981, was named the Oklahoma Society of Professional Journalists Teacher of the Year in late April 2016; she had also received the award previously in 2007.

One of Ms. Tresner's students from the 1980s submitted this year's nomination, and at the award ceremony Tresner got to see that student again and also meet and chat with one of her personal heroes, newspaper reporter Carl Bernstein, made famous in the Watergate investigation at the Washington Post.

The Fourth Estate student newspaper has repeatedly received first-place and medalists awards over the decades of Ms. Tresner's sponsorship. Previous honors for Ms. Tresner include the 2000 Al Neuharth Free Spirit Award, 1995 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oklahoma Interscholastic Press Association, 1994 Journalism Education Association Medal of Merit, 1992 Dow Jones Newspaper Fund Distinguished Adviser.
