Wombwell & Collins to lead Pom squad

The BPSD Athletic Department is excited to announce it will recommend the hiring of new coaches Nora Wombwell and Chelsea Collins to lead the Varsity Pom squad.  Spence Rigdon, Director of Athletics & Activities, said, “We are excited for the program to have coaches who can lead in all areas of pom.”

Tryouts for the 2019-20 Varsity Pom squad will take place May 29-31, 2019 starting with a clinic on May 29 & 30 from 4 p.m. to 6  p.m. and the tryout on May 31 starting at 4 p.m. All sessions will be in the Pom room at the northwest corner of the Phillips Field House at Bartlesville High School. Open gym will be on May 11 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Now that the Varsity coaches are in place, the Junior High program will be built for the next school year.

Nora Wombwell

In addition to coaching the poms, Nora Wombwell will also teach U.S. History at Bartlesville High School starting in the Fall of 2019. She shared that she started her dance career at age 3 in the back of an auditorium, mimicking her older sister's routines. She took classes at the Ballet Arts Center for Dance in Chillicothe, Missouri and was part of the Ballet Arts competitive team from age 8 through high school.

While majoring in Social Studies Education at the University of Central Missouri, Wombwell was part of the UCM Dance company as a dancer, choreographer, and student leader. During that time she also taught students of varying ages in various genres at Pleasant Hill Dance Academy in Missouri. Having taught social studies in Sedalia, Missouri and at Sand Springs, Ms. Wombwell is excited to be rejoining the world of dance with the 2019-20 Bartlesville Pom team.



Chelsea Collins

Chelsea Collins
Chelsea Collins will bring a competitive background to the Pom squad. She is the 
owner and creative director of P.C. Dance Company based out of Tulsa, and has been teaching dance for fifteen years, specializing in Contemporary, Jazz, and Hip Hop. Her choreography has been sought out by many dance companies throughout the U.S.

Chelsea’s company recently participated in the annual “KidZ Carnival” held in Los Angeles in which her company came runner up in the senior division, and was invited to the Professional Choreographers Carnival In Los Angeles for the past three years. Most recently her studio received the title "Best of Tulsa Dance Company" with students who earned national titles, dance scholarships, and choreography awards, and are represented by talent agencies such as Movement Talent Agency and MSA. Her dancers participate in professional dance companies and have been featured in music videos and magazines. 

Chelsea recently choreographed for Enid High School Pom team, winning multiple state titles for her choreography. Her studio was recently chosen to be featured in the Dance Advisor Magazine. Besides teaching and choreographing, Chelsea is also a judge for Showbiz Talent, Primetime Dance, Star Systems National Dance competition, Intrigue and Hype Dance Competition and Convention, and In10sity.
