  • You can now UNfavorite a course (removing it from your Dashboard) by clicking ⋮ on a dashboard course card. Then select the Move menu and then select Unfavorite. This is a quick way to get rid of first-semester cards without having to UNcheck their stars in the Courses menu.

  • The new gradebook will become the default in Canvas on January 18, 2020. Our district has already made this transition.

Immersive Reader lets students change the font, line spacing, colors, highlight one line at a time, see syllables and parts of speech, use a picture dictionary, and have text read aloud at various speeds. The tool can translate text into a wide variety of languages while still providing the above features in the translation.

Using Immersive Reader in the Chrome Web Browser

Since this tool is so powerful for students with special needs and for ELL students, in January we plan to allow students to install the Immersive Reader Chrome extension on their Chromebooks so they can then highlight text on a webpage, RIGHT-click (two-finger click on a Chromebook trackpad), and select Help me read this from the pop-up menu to invoke the tool.

Using Immersive Reader in the online versions of Word or OneNote

Immersive Reader is also included with Word and OneNote in Office 365, but we’ve found some staff and student accounts cannot access Office 365 with their district email address and password. So Tech Services is working to get Office 365 working again for all student and staff accounts so that you and your students can optionally use Immersive Reader in Word, OneNote, etc.
