Chrome apps, extensions, and add-ons

Apps & Extensions
There are many web apps students and staff can use on their Chromebooks and in the Chrome browser on other systems.

Chrome extensions are installed from the Chrome Web Store to expand the capabilities of the Chrome browser and Chromebooks.

Chrome web apps can only be viewed and installed via the Chrome Web Store when you are using a Chromebook and create dedicated app icons on a Chromebook.

Approved G Suite add-ons can be viewed and installed via the G Suite Marketplace

RESTRICTIONS

  • The district does NOT restrict most extensions on staff members' accounts and associated devices unless they have known security or privacy issues. However, it does restrict Android apps on district devices.

  • The district DOES block most extensions on student devices to increase time on task, protect student privacy, and reduce mischief. To see which apps & extensions are allowed for students:

  1. Use a district account to log into a Chromebook or log directly into the Chrome web browser itself on other devices.

  2. Go to the Chrome Web Store and click For bps-ok.org

To see what Android Apps are allowed, just open Google Play on any district Chromebook.

Teachers can have a site Help Desk ticket writer file a ticket to request that a particular extension, app, or add-on be allowed for students.

  • In 2019 Google moved Add-ons from the Chrome Web Store to the G Suite Marketplace. The district now has to manually whitelist add-ons to make them available in that service to students or staff. Teachers can have a site Help Desk ticket writer file a ticket to request that a particular extension, app, or add-on be allowed for students.
