Figure Drawing

We did some figure drawing using students in the class as models. We did a 4 or 5 minute drawing of each model. We used a crayon to draw with. We start each drawing with a gesture of the pose, making a kind of stick figure at first as a way to help plan our drawing. We then add volume by filling out the form and doing some shading work.

Shoe Drawing

We talked about lines and drew a variety of line types. We then looked at our shoes and and did a line drawing with lots of line types we saw. Students could then add value by shading, and color to their drawings. Some students cut the shoe drawings out and made a collage with them.

Maps

Students make a map by tearing shapes of paper. Students learn about geometric shapes and organic shapes. Geometric shapes will be things made by people and organic shapes will be natural things such as lakes. Students have fun naming the places on their maps and they must set a scale and have a map key.

Crayon Resist Fish

We did a drawing of a fish and used warm colors for the fish and a vertical line design. We used cool colors in the background and a horizontal line design. We build up a heavy layer of the crayon wax and then paint over the picture with water color.
