Egyptian Foil Repousse
Repousse is the shaping of metal by pressing on the backside to create a bas relief. Bas relief is a low sculptural relief or projection from a surrounding surface. Repousse is a type of embossing on a metal surface. Working the metal from both sides is called counter-repousse.

Students studied the art of ancient Egypt.

We drew an Egyptian design on a 5 inch square of paper.

The design was traced over with the foil underneath it. For this, the foil is placed face down on pad of folded paper.

A modeling tool is used to push on the backside of the foil. Be gentle so foil doesn't tear, push a little at a time. Work both sides of the foil - turn over and go around shapes with a dull pencil. Add desired textures and patterns.

We used black acrylic to antique the work by painting and then rubbing off most of the paint.
