Surreal
Collage
We made this surreal collage using pictures we cut from old magazines. We have studied works by several surrealist painters. Student collages will be made with the idea of dream imagery. Their work may include things floating, melting, or in an unusual place, or unreal scale, or objects may be combined together in weird ways. Students first had to make a background scene in witch the action can take place. This makes the students think about how the pictures will be cut out and fit into their scene. After the picture is finished the students write the story of their work. It does not matter if this is an actual dream they have had or a made up story.
I had a dream that a guy with a lady
head and a cat with a spider head were attacking a bird. At
the same time I saw whales swimming in a pond. The deer my
dad had shot become a king, and my Mother and Sister were
getting ready for the deer's ball. Christina I was driving to the lodge of the
great ape. I passed a great fish, the pet of an ocean man.
The sun was the face of my mother. Courtney My dream is about a tree that has a
head. A sun has girl heads for eyes. A tree has a man
sneaking into it. An ant has a bird body. Cheyenne There is a sun shower today. A gold
lion is chasing its prey, a goldy human mammoth. A pipeline
snake is also looking for a meal of oily rocks. A terrible
accident has happened today. A car was flying to work when
it suddenly crashed and is now hanging from a
tree. Tyler My dream is about two guys looking at
a house that is for sale. The house has a statue of a guy
hitting a power hit. There is a guy reading the Bible. The
guy in the car is listening to him. The people that have the
house for sale have a trampoline that has the American flag
on it. Jerick In my dream there was a tunnel where
you could get on the rails. Then you could look and they see
a dancer floating in the air and an eagle on a branch. A
Phillips 66 car is getting ready to run into a castle and a
lady who has a horse head. A car is getting ready to run
into another car. A man that is coming out of a tunnel with
a bird's head. Kimberly The two guys with the bird heads are
fighting. The two cars are running from the ant and the
space ship is fighting the ant. Jonathan ------ My dream is about me painting.
Crawdads are eating me and my servant is giving me tiger
blood to drink. A priest had a lamp fall on his head. He
says "Ouch". Two people are getting married by a preacher
with a crab head and little feet. That is my weird
