| Madison Middle School quintet stars in local VFW's Patriot's Pen Essay Contest | |

Madison Middle School students grabbed the top five spots in the recent Patriot's Pen Essay Contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign War Post 989 in Bartlesville. Stacee Blake took first place in the contest, followed by Kellen Watt (second place), Stephen Phillippe (third), Molly Singleton (fourth) and Andrew Brummett (fifth). The Patriot's Pen contest is a national contest held annually by the Veterans of Foreign War to give middle school students – from grades six through eight – the opportunity to express their opinions on democracy with a different theme every year. This year's theme was “Why should America 's veterans be honored?” All five top finishers from Madison will be presented with awards in honor of their lofty status in the contest. In the Patriot's Pen Essay Contest sponsored by the VFW Post 10099 in Dewey – which featured entries from Dewey students as well as those in surrounding communities such as Bartlesville, Copan and Ramona – Central Middle School students finished in the top three spots. Taking first place was Sarah Mohammad while Henry Williams was second and Brenna Cragun was third. |
