Purpose:
To identify characteristics related to physical and chemical changes.

Summary:
Students will participate in activities that demonstrate the differences between a physical and a chemical change.

  • one balloon
  • one block of wood
  • one clear plastic cup
  • one ice cube
  • one 12" piece of string
  • one straw
  • limewater (calcium hydroxide)
  • matches
  • salt

Safety Concerns:
Calcium hydroxide may cause irritation to the skin. Hazardous if swallowed. Contact a physician immediately.
