Purpose:
Demonstrate acceleration due to gravity with objects of different horizontal speeds falling at the same rate and to determine whether mass affects the speed at which things fall.
Summary:
These activities create an opportunity for students to create experiments that explain acceleration and motion.

Materials:
For each group of students:
- two marbles of the same size but different colors
- two larger marbles of the same size
- ruler with a groove down the middle
- two books
- three identical rubber balls
- tape
- string
- student worksheet
- scissors
Safety Concerns:
Common sense precautions; marbles may be harmful if swallowed.
