Purpose:
Students will test objects and determine whether or not that object acts as a conductor or insulator of electricity.

Summary:
A simple circuit is constructed and students use this to test objects in the room to determine whether they are conductors or insulators.

Process Skills Checklist

Materials:

  • one student worksheet
  • one battery in a battery holder
  • three alligator clips or 3 12" copper wire (20-22 gauge)
  • 1 amp bulb in socket

Safety Concerns:
Heat and electrical shock hazard.
