PASS Strand:
1. Physical Properties in Matter

Objectives:

  1. In chemical reactions and physical changes, matter is conserved (e.g., compare and contrast physical and chemical changes). The mass of an object is not altered due to changes in shape.

Time Range:
2nd quarter; one week

Suggested Teaching Strategies:
The lesson should demonstrate that changes in physical properties, such as volume, do not alter the mass of a substance. Lessons should incorporate the measurement of mass and volume.

    Prior Units/Knowledge:
  • Use of various measurement tools, such as balances and graduated cylinders.
