PASS Strand:
2. Populations and Ecosystems

Objectives:

  1. Organisms within an ecosystem are dependent on one another and on nonliving components of the environment. Some source of energy is needed for all organisms to stay alive and grow. Energy transfer can be followed in food chains and webs.
Local extension: Students are able to identify the chemical equation of photosynthesis and its importance. Students will learn how the different components of an ecosystem and the inter-relationships of the differences of an ecosystem are important to our survival.

Time Range:
3rd Quarter

Suggested Teaching Strategies:

  • Emphasize photosynthesis and the basic foundation of all plant life.
  • Ecosystem activities.
  • Identify the various biomes in the world and produce a world map of their location.
  • Describe each biome, identify the species that are adapted for each environment and describe their adaptations.

Aligned Resources:

  • Core Lab 10: Designing an Ecosystem
  • Film: Photosynthesis - The Chemistry of Food Making
  • Textbook: Introduction to Plants, Section 2: Integrating Physics (Photosynthesis and Light)
  • Textbook: Populations and Communities, Sections 1, 2, and 3

Revision Date:
