Objectives:

  1. Characteristics of an organism result from inheritance and from interactions with the environment.
    Local extension: Students learn to manipulate Punnett's square to chart possible combinations that can result from a genetic cross.

Time Range:
4th Quarter

Suggested Teaching Strategies:

  • Participate in activities derived from probability of genetic variations.
  • Complete Ninsect worksheets.
  • Discuss Mendel's experiments with pea plants and the genetic principles derived from them.
  • Practice Punnett squares for several different mono-hybrid crosses.
  • Class survey of visible human genetic traits.
