Purpose:
To determine the materials necessary for yeast to live and reproduce.

Summary:
Students will design an experiment using provided materials to determine which items are necessary for the survival and reproduction of yeast cells. After teacher approval, students will set up the experiment and make observations about gas production.

• yeast
• flour
• sugar
• water
• salt
• warm water bath
• balance
• graduated cylinder

Safety Concerns:
Do not eat or drink. Use caution around warm water bath.
