Objectives:

  1. The complexity and organization of organisms accommodates the need for obtaining, transforming, transporting, releasing, and eliminating the matter and energy used to sustain the organism (i.e., photosynthesis and cellular respiration).

Time Range:
2nd Quarter; 22 days for Strand 5

  • Cellular Level
    • Discuss cellular membranes and their structures
    • Discuss diffusion & osmosis - transforming and transporting materials through membranes
    • Active and passive transport
    • Organelles and their functions
  • Organism Level
    • Discuss digestive tract structure and function
    • Respiration and elimination of wastes
    • Botany - cover photosynthesis, energy usage and tissue formation
