6. The Behavior of Organisms

Objectives:

  1. Responses to external stimuli can result from interactions with the organism's own species and others, as well as environmental changes; these responses either can be innate or learned. Broad patterns of behavior exhibited by animals have changed over time to ensure reproductive success.

Time Range:
4th Quarter; 20 days for Strand 6

Suggested Teaching Strategies:

  • Explain survival of the fittest (Natural Selection)
  • Large numbers of offspring and reproductive cells
  • R & K reproductive processes
  • Internal verses external fertilization
  • Population dispersal patterns
  • Territorial displays
