Purpose:
To model the effect of variation in physical and behavioral characteristics on survival and reproductive success in a fictional plier bird.

Summary:
Plier Birds I: Variation in physical and behavioral characteristics
Plier Birds II: Competition
Plier Birds III: Population Changes over Time
Students will use different types of pliers to simulate different types of beaks in a fictional bird. Using these beaks they will forage for different foods (various nuts) to determine the characteristics (both physical and behavioral) of a successful bird (one that obtains sufficient calories to survive and reproduce).
