Purpose:
To use specific tests to identify monosaccharides, disaccharides, polysaccharides, proteins, and lipids. To use the results to identify three unknown substances.

Summary:
Students will test a monosaccharide, disaccharide, and polysaccharide using the iodine and Benedict's tests. They will test for protein using Biuret reagent, and will test for lipid using Sudan III. They will use the results of these tests to identify 3 different unknown substances.
