To distinguish reactants from products and observe and classify four types of chemical reactions: synthesis, decomposition, single displacement, and double displacement.
Students observe several chemical reactions, classify the type of reaction, and write the balanced equation representing the reaction.

- HCl, NaOH, AgNO3, CuCl2, KI, FeCl3, Pb(NO3)2 solutions

Goggles and aprons; open flame is used; chemicals may be toxic if ingested; fume hood should be used in solution preparation
