Content Standard 2:
Chemical Reactions

Objectives:

  1. A chemical reaction is one in which one or more substances are converted into different substances. A chemical change cannot be reversed by physical means. A large number of important reactions involve the transfer of either electrons (oxidation/reduction) or hydrogen ions (acid/base reactions).
Local extensions:
  • A large number of important reactions involve chemicals classified as acids and bases.

Time Range:
4th Quarter; 2 weeks

Suggested Teaching Strategies:

  • Bonding Units (see Objective 1: A)
  • Acids and Bases Unit
    1. What are acids and bases?
    2. Can the strengths of acids and bases be quantified?
    3. How are acidity and pH related?
    4. What is a titration?
