Laboratory Safety

Objectives:
Safety awareness and proper lab procedures are of utmost importance when working with the following: glassware, chemicals, and electrical equipment. Identify potential hazards and practice safety procedures in all science activities.

Time Range:
3rd Quarter; 1.5 weeks

Suggested Teaching Strategies:
(not in CPO materials)

• Students will define related vocabulary terms and fill in guided outline during class discussion.
• Identify and locate safety equipment in the laboratory (eyewash, safety shower, fire blanket & extinguisher, etc.).
• Introduce safety procedures in all laboratory circumstances.
• Identify lab equipment and proper usage techniques.
• Review safety symbols.
