Secretary’s Report

Minutes from the February 11, 2008 meeting were available for review at the meeting.  A motion to accept the minutes as written was made by Beth Beard and a second was made by Melanie Refvik.  A couple of typos were pointed out and they will be corrected

There was no discussion.  The motion passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report

Copies of Itemized Categories – YTD (Income and Expenses) and Register Report were available for review.  Melanie Refvik, treasurer commented there was lots of activity during February, primarily for Spring Fund Raiser, Yearbook and Carnival.   Money is still coming in for the spring fund raiser so the numbers are not firm at this point.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT - Richard Dennis:

·        Carnival - Thanked Jessica Butler, Sara Eads and parent volunteers who helped make this year’s carnival one of the smoothest running carnivals ever. Also acknowledged the large number of National Honor Society students who assisted.

·        .Remodel committee – The committee has had several meetings and will meet again this week with architect to finalize design. Changes which are being considered: new cabinets for 3, 4th and 5th grade classrooms, new ceilings, updates for gym including windows and window coverings, carpeting for hallway, makeover for bathrooms including bigger vent fans, better ventilation, hot water, and new flooring and a covered portico on front of Wayside.

·        Library – converting from the Accelerated Reading (AR) Program to Scholastic’s Reading Counts which goes along with the SRI system.   Tremendous amount of work involved in the conversion effort, but it will be well worth it.

·        Library reconfiguration –would like to reconfigure library space to make it more functional, i.e. move book shelves closer to circulation desk and move tables and computer to west end so students can continue to check out books if a class is utilizing the library.  Free standing book shelves will need to be purchased.  Kathy Hixon’s husband is willing to initiate a COP grant.  An additional COP employee is needed as sponsor.  Pam Bilger, Patti Mason and PJ Polk volunteered their spouses.  Old Library bookshelves would be moved to new project room.

·        Grant workshop day for all teachers held recently. It went well.

·        Spring Break - No school Mar. 14 & Mar. 17 – 21. School will be held on Mar.  24th, which was originally a teacher professional day but now a snow makeup day.

·        CRT tests schedule in April for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders.

·        Phase IV Literacy 1st– no decision has been made on whether Wayside will pursue this for next year.  It is a 3 yr commitment. Wilson and Hoover are both Phase IV Literacy First schools.

·        Concern was raised about state funding for schools for next year and status of extended school year: Mr. Dennis acknowledged from what he has read that the state has a $34 million shortfall.  State legislators are supposed to have budget in place by April. He is opposed to using teacher professional days as a means of extending instruction days.

·        MP3’s have been ordered for Mrs. Brewer and Mrs. Vanzant.

·

TEACHER REPRESENTATIVE - Rhonda Kesselhuth made the following report:

·        Criterion Referenced Tests – Tests scheduled as follows:  5th grade – Apr. 16 & 17 and Apr. 22 & 23; 3rd grade – Apr. 16 & 17; 4th grade – Apr. 22 & 23. Ten parent volunteers are needed for each day. PJ circulated sign up sheets.

·        Passed along a fund raiser idea from Avon from Mrs. Herrera

·        Buckle Down workbooks - 3rd grade teachers would like a 2nd set of Buckle Down, OCCT/EOI Prep workbooks made exclusively for Oklahoma.  Cost is $200 plus tax, shipping and handling. Initially a quorum was not available; when a quorum became available, Beth Beard made a motion to purchase a second set of the 3rd grade Buckle down Test Preparation material at a cost of approximately $200 plus shipping and handling.  Carlie Baccus seconded the motion. The motion carried.

COMMITTEE REPORTS (not necessarily in order of report)
