Mrs. Sandra Kent,
Principal
OAESP National Distinguished Principal 2008-09
Welcome to
Wilson Elementary! I am so pleased to be the principal of such a
fine school. We are proud to be an Oklahoma A+ School where our
mission is to prepare students to be successful in their adult
world. As an A+ school our philosophy is based on eight essentials
that we believe will create the best learning environment for our
students. These essentials include using the multiple intelligence
theory to learn more about the way we each learn and process
information as well as integrating the arts into all aspects of the
school day. Our teachers also collaborate on a regular basis to
provide support for the students as well as one another. We have
worked on mapping our curriculum to provide a more integrated form
of learning. This means that we have aligned the Oklahoma PASS
objectives from all curriculum areas (Math, Reading, Science, Social
Studies, Arts, PE, etc) to create learning opportunities that cover
more than one subject area at a time. We also try to give
opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning in more than
one way or in enriched assessment formats. Our climate and culture
are both positive and make Wilson an exciting place to teach and
learn.
I have been
an educator for 17 years. This will be my ninth year as a principal.
I love my job! It gives me a chance to interact with all
students and to impact their learning. In addition
to promoting good learning, I also enjoy helping students solve problems
and learn to be people of character who think things through to make
good choices.
With the help of the outstanding faculty and staff,
we continue to build a solid foundation that has always been the
standard at Wilson. From curriculum issues to the environment of the school, I want to make sure that our students have
the best we can find for them.
