At its regular meeting on April 20, the Bartlesville Public Schools Board of Education will consider the appointment of Matt Hancock as the next Principal of Bartlesville High School effective July 1.
Dr. Hancock would fill the position vacated by Michael Harp, who is moving to the position of Executive Director of Student Services and Programs.
Hancock has served the district in a variety of capacities since 2009. His career within BPS spans classroom instruction, coaching, athletics administration, alternative education, and virtual learning. Hancock began his career with the district in 2009 as a social studies teacher and coach at Bartlesville Mid-High School, where he coached football, track, and powerlifting. He later served as Assistant Principal at Madison Middle School. Hancock currently serves as Principal of Central Middle School, a position he has held since 2022. Prior to this role, Hancock had served in multiple capacities at Bartlesville High School, including Assistant Principal, Director of Virtual Learning, Assistant Director of Athletics and Activities, and Bruin Academy Principal.
Hancock holds a Doctor of Education in Public School Administration and Organization Theory from Oral Roberts University, where he graduated with a 4.0 GPA and had his dissertation published in two peer-reviewed educational journals. He also holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. He currently teaches graduate level courses at several regional universities. His wife, Amanda, is a Bruin graduate who teaches at BHS.
