Special Olympics

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Special Olympics Sports Programs

Our Special Olympics team trains throughout the year in order to compete in a variety of different sporting events.  We have athletes and unified partners that compete in track and field, bowling, and cornhole.

Our track and field events include wheelchair activities, short dashes to long runs, softball throw and the turbo javelin throw.

In the coming years, we hope to add unified flag football, motor activities, unified volleyball and bocce ball.

Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools

We are proud to announce our new journey in becoming a Unified Champion School for Special Olympics.  The Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools program is aimed at promoting social inclusion and creating school climates of acceptance. With sports as a foundation, students with disabilities are routinely included in and feel a part of all activities, opportunities, and functions.

As a Unified Champion School, we promote Unified Sports where students with and without disabilities train and compete side-by-side developing athletic skills and forming friendships. The second component is Inclusive Youth Leadership where all students work together to become beacons for change in their school and in their community.  The last component is Whole School Engagement.  Whole School Engagement is done through activities that foster inclusion, raise awareness and create an environment where all students are respected and accepted.
